In The Happy Isles of Oceania, writer Paul Theroux concludesthat the closest place to paradise is on the Big Island of Hawaii. Where else can you ski on a volcano, then snorkel with turtlesor dolphins in the same day? There are pieces of land on theKona coast with fertile soil and panoramic ocean sunset views. After looking for our years, I have found a property which was part of a Japanese farm. The younger generation has moved on, yet many trees remain. Hundreds of mature coffee plants which could regain full productivity with some pruning. Big mango trees well positioned for sunset view treehouses. Avocado, macadamia nut, banana, guavapassion fruit, lychee, multiple citrus, banana are among what I’ve found so far. Cocoa and the widest possible variety of fruit and medicinal herbs will be planted ASAP.
