VENTURES
In a few years, once some of the landscape is in place and more plants are flourishing,
there will be no public access except for an occasional guided tour, (free admission will
be offered to veterans either retired or mobility impaired). With such abundance of raw
material and brainpower, there will likely be delicious development with quantities limited
to distribution among shareholders and contributors. Rather than make promises that
would impose deadlines, rewards are in store for those with faith and patience.
COFFEE
There are at least a thousand coffee plants, however all but a few have not been tended to for
many years, so they need to be pruned back so they can branch out better for future seasons…
CHOCOLATE
We hope to enhance the stature of Hawaiian grown cacao. Processing is a complex challenge.
It will take a few years before we have a supply of nibs. Whether or not we elaborate our own product,
we will work together with other local entities to make things even better.
SPIRITS
While there is still yet much research to do on a home hobby level, here are three basic distillations;
Okolehao, AKA Hawaiian moonshine, made from roasted Ti root; Baijiu, made from sorghum; and
Shochu, made from sweet potatoes or brown sugar. Perhaps these could be aged in barrels made
from mango or macadamia wood. There is also abundant sugarcane for rum.
PIGS
Whatever edible you plant, the pigs will get to it unless you plan ahead. Rather than just fence them out,
the crops will be bait in a trapping system. Sorghum is a pig magnet. Those caught would be distributed
among neighbors who agree to feed them until they are ready to process humanely after a final meal with
alcohol spiked fruit so they are so buzzed they won’t feel a thing. Cured salami is just one possibility…
